Day 1: Arrival in San Jose

Depart Canada or USA and board your flight to San Jose.  Transfer by shared or private service  to your central hotel such as the Gran de Oro,  a converted Victorian mansion, now a luxurious Boutique hotel! An oasis in San José offering all the amenities, the warmth, and comfort of a private home. Check-in and relax and have dinner.

Day 2: Mini city tour in San Jose and Monteverde Cloud Forest

Go on your own or join one of the various tours with a local guide –  Visit the highlights of San José, the beautiful building of the National Theatre. Enjoy a cup of freshly ground coffee and different tapas or refresh yourself with a sip of Chicha, a traditional local drink.

Monteverde is located 172 km northwest of San José in the Cordillera de Tilarán, on the continental coast of Costa Rica at a height between 1400 and 1700 m. The resulting climatic and geological conditions are the basis for the enormous diversity of species and unique vegetation. A number of hiking trails allow visitors to discover the cloud forest. Approximately 400 bird, 490 butterfly, more than 100 mammalian, 2’500 plant and tens of thousands of insects were chosen here. Among the noteworthy animal species are Jaguar, Tapir, Lark, Umbrella Bird and the magnificent Quetzal.

Monteverde Canopy Tour

Day 3: Monteverde Cloud Forest and Canopy Tour

Located along the continental divide, Monteverde Cloud Forest is a lush and beautiful hiking experience. Animal lovers will find more than 100 species of mammal, approximately 1,200 varieties of amphibian and 400 varieties of birds in the reserve, as well as tens of thousands of unique insect types. Animals known to live in Monteverde include the Baird’s tapir, the three-toed sloth, the jaguar, the resplendent quetzal and the keel-billed toucan.

The Canopy Tour in Monteverde is one of the finest canopy tours in the country. It’s cables and platforms are built into the cloud forest rather than above it, allowing tour takers to feel truly immersed within the forested environment. Furthermore, there is a so-called “Tarzan Swing” at the end of the tour, a large, swing-like contraption that allows participants to swing out above the forest and truly feel like the man for whom it is named. Day 4: Transfer from Monteverde to Arenal Volcano

With its several protected areas, lakes, lagoons, volcanoes, rivers and waterfalls, the North of Costa Rica including famous the Arenal Volcano is perfect for nature-loving visitors who can enjoy the region’s many riches. The majestic volcano is covered with lush tropical rainforest and surrounded by hills. Day 5: Arenal Volcano Hike and Picnic

On this adventure, we trek through the rainforest at the base of the Arenal Volcano. Your guide will lead you along a 1.2-mile trail that passes through primary and secondary forests. As you make your way up to the volcano’s lava formations you will learn about the history of Arenal, identify flora and fauna while exploring one of Costa Rica’s most iconic landmarks… Not to mention be rewarded with majestic views of Lake Arenal as well as the continental divide.

In the evening enjoy the Tabacon hot springs!

Day 6: Transfer from Arenal to Papagayo

Day 8, 9, 10

Day 11: Transfer to Airport and Return Home

Early morning transfer today to the local airport. Board your international flight back to Canada and leave relaxed and regenerated by your Costa Rican experience.
